What is thigh lift surgery?
Aging and excessive weight loss lead to loss of elasticity in the skin and sagging. These droopy and deformed looks are eliminated with thigh lift surgery.
Who is a candidate for this surgery?
Theoretically, this procedure can be performed on all patients who have the mentioned problems, if there are no conditions obstructing the surgery.
How is the procedure performed?
Surgery is often performed under general anaesthesia. Since the sagging and deformed appearance is greater on the inner part of the thigh, this is where the operation is performed. Patients whose skin elasticity is not lost, and skin excess is not significant can benefit from liposuction alone. However, liposuction assisted surgical operation is necessary in patients with excess skin or loss of elasticity. There are two basic surgical methods. The first of these techniques uses a horizontal line incision on the groin, and the second one uses a vertical line incision on the inner-thigh extending from the groin to the knee. The advantage of the first technique is that the scar remains within the bikini. However, complication rate is higher in early stages and the scar is more likely to widen. The advantage of the second method is that the complication rate is lower, and the result is more permanent. The disadvantage is the vertical scar left on the inner leg. Considering patient’s clinical findings, the most suitable method is agreed upon with the patient.
Patients are discharged in 1-2 days. They can return to their daily lives after a week. It may be necessary to use pressured bandage for up to three weeks. They may start doing exercises after the first month.
